KDE 3.5 on SUSE 10

Tagged As:

For those of you that need to run KDE 3.5 on SUSE 10 (or OpenSUSE)

Please only update if you really need to for compatibility issues or something similar. Although I have updated without hassles your experience may not be the same.

As always nothing to complicated, all you need to do is add a new installation source and update your packages. To add a new source you will need to open YAST (Kicker | System | YAST). Select installation source and click add. The following details must be entered here.

Protocol: HTTP
Server: ftp.gwdg.de

For 32 bit:
pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/yast-source/

For 64 bit:

KDE 3.5 Source

Once you have added the source you can head over to “Software Managment” (back in YAST). You will notice the drop down list on the left, select package groups from the list and then scroll down to the bottom of the package group list and click zzz_ALL. You will now see a list of all the packages on the right of the screen.

Now you need to specify updates for all packages, to do this click package (between file and extra) on the menu bar,  go down to  “in this list” and select the option which says “update all if newer package is available”

With this all done you can go ahead and let the installation run, its quite a lot of packages so it may take a while but if everything is succesful you will be running KDE 3.5 on a SUSE 10 installation by the time you are done.
